Happy Hearts in Medellín

Mis Corazones Alegres ("My Happy Hearts") is a home for seniors in Medellin, Colombia, managed by Cristina Rengifo and her mother Matilda who founded the home.

It is a thriving enterprise, with 30 seniors in care and five full-time employees. According to Hillel Natanson, who visited the project during his recent trip to South-America:
  • Since the project provides care to poor seniors who cannot afford the full cost of the care they receive, it sometimes struggles to pay its bills. There is no state support for this kind of senior's care, and most of the costs are met by contributions from the elderly residents and their families. Among other things, Mis Corazones is in need of two good quality professional hospital beds which cost $500 each, to facilitate care, washing and feeding of bed-bound elderly. Susila Dharma France Entraide has just given the funds for purchasing the two beds.
